Welcome to Redwood Hanoverians

2007 saw the first steps taken in a long held dream to commence breeding quality Hanoverian warmbloods for the dressage arena under our chosen prefix of “Redwood”.

The name “Redwood” was chosen in honour of Kirstine’s maiden name of Egan.  The Egan clan seat is Redwood Castle at Lorrha in Co Tipperary, near the north-east corner of Lough Derg and the town of Portumna, Ireland. The fine castle here was originally built about 1210 and in recent times has been carefully restored by Michael J. Egan from Castlebar, Co Mayo.

In June of 2007 Elite Printemps (Prince Noir x Kinnordy Gesina) was purchased from Peter and Karen Crommelin of Elite Warmbloods as the foundation of this dream.  A stunning chestnut with four white socks and a star, she embodied correct conformation, athleticism, beauty and a superb temperament.  Unfortunately, tragedy struck and we lost our darling “Prinnie” to colic.

Despite the heartache, we pushed forward and fate rewarded us with Remi Pinup Girl.  Again, Prince Noir features as the sire with the beautiful Lanthan mare Remi Limited Edition (out of Remi Wedgewood) as her dam.

Like Prinnie, Remi Pinup Girl displays the characteristics we wish to see in all our horses – correct conformation, beauty and athleticism, coupled with a superb temperament.

With the above characteristics and ideals firmly cemented in our minds it was easy choosing Fishermans Friend (Fabriano x Penny Lane) as the stallion to put over Remi Pinup Girl.  In 2003/04, Fishermans Friend was the leader of the dressage quadrille at the Hanoverian State Stud in Celle, Germany.  At his Performance Test in Adelheidsdorf he received the following excellent results:

  • Overall 124.08 (6th/45), Dressage 127.11 (4th), Jumping 112.64 (11th)
  • Individual Scores include: 9 Canter, 8.67 Trot, 8.67 Walk, 9 Character, 8 Rideability, 9 Cross Country, 8.76 Free Jumping.

In 2005, Fishermans Friend's first crop of foals turned 3 years old.   His outstanding heredity was demonstrated with a licensed son and 5 State Premium Mares.   Fishermans Friend is now on the FN Breed Rankings for 2005 Top 5% Dressage Stallions with his first crop of riding age horses.

Consequently, we were thrilled when Remi Pinup Girl was confirmed in foal to this magnificent stallion for our first “Redwood” baby, due in 2008.

In the meantime, Remi Pinup Girl will be broken in and presented for her led and ridden mare classifications by Remi Stud and their guest rider for the season, Irina Yilmaz.  Irina worked for 2 years at the Westfalian State Stud in Wahrendorf training the stallions, before joining the dressage stables of Michael Klimke where she rides horses up to Grand Prix.

Following Remi Pinup Girl’s classifications she will be turned out to foal.  Upon weaning of her foal she will be started under saddle in Young Horse and Preliminary dressage classes by Kirstine under the watchful eye of their coach, FEI rider Karen Crommelin.

All in all we are looking forward to a very exciting 2008 and beyond for Redwood Hanoverians.
