A fter many years of studying and researching Warmbloods, the first steps were taken in a long held dream to commence breeding quality Hanoverian Warmbloods under the prefix of “Redwood”.

The name “Redwood” was chosen in honour of its association with Kirstine’s maiden name of Egan. The Egan clan seat is Redwood Castle at Lorrha in Co Tipperary, near the north-east corner of Lough Derg and the town of Portumna, Ireland. This fine castle was originally built about 1210 and in recent times has been carefully restored by Michael J. Egan from Castlebar, Co Mayo.

During our years of study and research, we were drawn to Warmbloods that consistently displayed correct conformation, beauty and athleticism, coupled with a superb temperament – hence the choice to breed Hanoverians.

Also of paramount importance to Redwood Hanoverians are the Breeding Aims of the Hanoverian Horse Society of Australia, which, in part reads:

“The Hanoverian Society's Breeding Program encompasses measures designed to progress the breeding aim of the Society. The breeding aim of the Hanoverian Society is to produce a willing, noble, well-proportioned and correct warmblood horse which, as a result of its natural talents, temperament and character is particularly suitable both as a performance and leisure horse.

It shall be the Society's aim, working on this basis, to breed highly talented sport horses for the disciplines of dressage, jumping, eventing and driving. Selection measures based on factors such as assessment of the conformation of the horse, performance testing, and appraisal of the breeding value are used to achieve the breeding aim. To establish the breeding value other breed associations in Europe are used in conjunction with the Hanoverian horse.”

With these ideals and aims firmly entrenched, we have established a small boutique stud dedicated to providing riders and breeders alike access to world class Hanoverians right here in Australia.
